Over the years, Sant’Anna School students and researchers have won numerous prizes and awards. The most recent prize was awarded to the Dirpolis Law, Politics, Development Institute (directed by Professor Andrea de Guttry) on May 18, 2018, at the “International Society for Military Law and the Law of War” conference, in Lisbon. The Professor Giuseppe Ciardi Foundation awarded Francesca Capone its 2018 scientific prize for her book entitled “Reparations for Child Victims of Armed Conflict: State of the Field and Current Challenges” (Antwerp/Cambridge, Intersentia, 2017).

The Ciardi prize, named after Professor Giuseppe Ciardi to highlight his outstanding work, is intended to reward a substantial and original study dealing with military law, international law or humanitarian law published in the last three years. Francesca Capone turned her PhD thesis, jointly supervised by Sant’Anna School and the University of Tilburg, into this successful book. To date, Capone is the youngest winner of the Ciardi prize and the second Italian to receive the award.

Since 1970, the Ciardi Prize was awarded to, among others, Frits Kalshoven, Michael Bothe, Dieter Fleck, Jean-Marie Henckaerts and Louise Doswald-Beck.
